A thread to an existential crisis. Also, physics is why I am an atheist. I think it is too complicated for our simple ape-selves to comprehend.

That’s actually a theory incorporated into M-theory (string theory)
Sorry, I just used the word theory three times.
Basically, there is a possibility, if string theory is correct and atoms are actually made up of tiny strings vibrating in 10 dimensions, we could have infinite parallel universes inside each and every quark contained in our body. We’re huge to them, and tiny to the universe WE are contained in.
How bout that? There could be billions upon trillions of creatures, things, worlds, inside each atom inside us. Infinite universes in one quark.
Mia your geek is showing.
This is why I study physics.

…whoah. brb, contemplating this forever.

So does that mean that when we die all those billions of universes and creatures die within us?

oh hello there existential crisis. i missed you. :|

Not a fashion post. But, for the record, my religion is String Theory. Yep, I’m an atheist. Hardcore. You’re welcome to worship whatever floating sky-entity you like. Bearded man… Cats… Flying Spaghetti…
I think the “truth” of our existence and our souls is so incredibly complicated, our little peon brains (which are merely bits of dust in a vast universe) would explode trying to understand even the littlest bit of information.
Put it this way: if the key to the origin to the universe were in a book, discovering a Higgs Boson particle would give us the ability to maybe read three things on a multi-million page table of contents.
Have you seen the Hubble Deep Field? It looked at a teeny tiny bit of what looked like “empty space”. It found THREE THOUSAND GALAXIES. GALAXIES. For the record, our little group of planets around a sun is not a galaxy. Our home Galaxy is the Milky Way. Each star in that band you see is a star like our sun. And in that image of what looked like blank space were (again, all caps to drive the point home) THREE THOUSAND MILKY WAYS. Except each was different and unique.
None of us knows why we’re here, in these bodies, with these souls. However you decide to explain it to yourself is fine, but don’t force me to adopt your explanation. Oh, and women like me, heretics, often got tied to things and burned.
I love Neil deGrasse Tyson with the white hot fury of a thousand suns.
