Gimme some Dries, Please...
I’ve never paid much attention to Dries Van Noten (Unh. Minimalism. Snore.) but I loved almost everything shown for FW2012. Source: www.style.com

The Scent of Marketing →
It seems as if teeny perfumers are cropping up everywhere - this latest one, “The Scent of Departure”, has the hook of smelling like a city. All I smell from this is a marketing ploy.  If London smells like bergamot and freesia I’ll make tea from my sweaty ballet slippers. I adore the smell of London, and it does have a very distinct smell - but it’s not freesia. London...

In Today's National Post...
Re: Juno, Where Are You?, Arthur Kaptainis, May 11. Unlike reviewer Arthur Kaptainis, I genuinely enjoyed how the Canadian Opera Company’s (COC) production of Handel’s Semele fully embraced the bawdy libretto and the general raunchiness of the baroque period. I may have not liked every element, but I enjoyed most of what your local critic has pronounced a national embarrassment. It is clear Mr....

Overhaul the boring
Sometimes I just get random trims, thinking one day it will come to me. I was wearing my plain cheap suede wedges and messing around with a bullion applique I’d picked up a while back. Toe? Heel? Both? So I put the whole shebang together. Appliques, ribbon, some little brass stamps, a leather needle, and some 527 glue. Gluing down the appliques was a bit of a pain, but other than...

The Souvenir Necklace
A few posts back I showed a really interesting necklace of old frames with vintage portraits in them. Amazing concept, but not really “me”. I’m not keen on wearing someone else’s portrait. And, not to toot my own horn *too* much, but I’m a pretty kick ass hobby photographer. (Basically, if it’s “art”, I can totally do it. If it’s...
